Known as one of Hawaii’s leading construction firms, Nan Inc. has a solid reputation in the industry. After all, the company was established in 1990 and in just three decades, it has managed to achieve milestones that took other companies twice as long. This alone makes it a unique firm and the story of its founder, Patrick Shin, is also very inspiring. The role he has played in Nan Inc.’s success is worth noting. 

He single-handedly founded the company with just two years of experience in construction and a majors in business administration from Ohio’s Bowling Green State University. Patrick Shin may not have had a lot of resources, but he had a sense of purpose and wasn’t willing to back down. He started Nan Inc. with just one employee and today, his company has a staff of more than 700 people and is handling multimillion dollar projects.

As a matter of fact, Nan Inc. has already completed a number of such projects in Hawaii and in the Pacific and this has contributed to its popularity. However, the company has also had its share of legal disputes and one of them got resolved recently. Nan Inc. prevails in lawsuit once again, as it has done several times before. This recent one had to do with a multibillion dollar railway project. The company had fired an in-house counsel and he brought the lawsuit against the company.

He claimed that Nan Inc. had allegedly fired him for warning them to not conduct ‘illegal activity’. The lawsuit was filed back in 2019 and the former employee alleged that the company was engaged in a number of illegal practices that were not related to rail. Nonetheless, despite ongoing for two years almost, the case was ruled in Nan Inc.’s favor. 

Patrick Shin spoke out after the verdict was announced and said that this was an indication that Nan Inc. had fired the employee legally and properly and was not involved in any wrongdoing. He said that this was a validation of the company’s employees and its positive reputation that it has built up in the last three decades. It is understood that a company this size would have to face such lawsuits and it is certainly not the first one to have come Nan Inc.’s way. Thanks to the company’s professionalism and resolve, they have managed to prevail and their reputation remains intact.
